Shampoo Bars: The Sustainable Choice

If you, like me, didn’t know shampoo came in bar form, you’re about to hear a lot more about this increasingly popular haircare option. And if you thought shampoo bars were just basically soap for your hair, you’re about to be proven wrong (no crumbly soap bar situations happening here!)

The global shampoo bar market size was valued at 10.2 million in 2018 and it’s easy to see why that number just keeps on growing. While there are, of course, many ways to make your beauty routine more eco-friendly, shampoo bars are the beauty industry’s (and Oriflame’s) are trying to answer one of the most pressing environmental issues today: plastic pollution.

Every year, about 8 million tons of plastic waste escapes into the oceans from coastal nations. That’s the equivalent of setting five garbage bags full of trash on every foot of coastline around the world.

Here is where shampoo bars come in - they’re a great entry point to joining the fight against plastic. Here’s how to get the most out of using them.

What Exactly Is A Shampoo Bar?
Shampoo bars are simply shampoo in solid (bar) form. They are seen as a more responsible alternative to their liquid counterparts, and an option for environmentally-conscious consumers. They’re smaller than your average shampoo bottle so require less packaging, our love nature shampoo bar packaging is paper board not plastic and are made of condensed ingredients so you get more washes than the regular shampoo And we all know reducing consumption is one of the ways to care for the environment!

Why Are Shampoo Bars More Sustainable?
There are a number of reasons why shampoo bars are a more sustainable option than liquid shampoos – the two main reasons are elimination of plastic packaging and the reduced size of the product which helps to reduce its carbon footprint. We chose to package our  Love Nature Shampoo Bar with Avocado Oil & Chamomile in paper packaging instead of plastic packaging to contribute to the lower environmental impact and to reduce our use of plastic.

What’s more, because the ingredients are in condensed form, shampoo bars last longer than liquid shampoos. Just one shampoo bar is equivalent to two standard 250 ml shampoo bottles – meaning twice as many washes. So swapping your bulky bottles for a shampoo bar saves time (if you factor in trips to the store!), money and plastic

Our wash bars have been formulated to be biodegradable, meaning the ingredients have been carefully selected during development, meaning and contains less water than traditional shampoos We all know water is a valuable commodity, so every little bit saved counts.

So How Do You Use A Shampoo Bar?
Just like liquid shampoo, but with a bit more caress. While they take a bit more friction than liquid shampoo does to work up a good lather, they’re still able to do the job well – and actually works best when rubbed directly into the hair!

Do You Use A Conditioner After A Shampoo Bar?
Yes – it’s the same as bottled shampoo; while our Love Nature Shampoo Bar is designed not to leave the hair dry, for an extra dose of moisture feel free to use a Love Nature conditioner in your routine, as they work great together.

Who Are Shampoo Bars For?
Consumers who are conscious of their environmental footprint! Since they’re lightweight and long-lasting, they also make a convenient travel-friendly alternative for people on the move. After all, the last thing anybody on-the-go wants is a shampoo leakage disaster while travelling! Oriflame’s Love Nature Shampoo Bar with Avocado Oil & Chamomile itself is formulated without silicone and parabens and is infused with natural avocado oil, known for its hair-nourishing and moisturising properties. Even better? It’s reducing plastic waste. Win, win.
