Laminaria digitata’s elegant sounding name refers to the brown-green alga’s wavy appearance, resembling a hand with gently fluttering fingers: Lamina means ‘blade’ and digitus means ‘finger’ in Latin. The alga also goes by other names such as kelp, tangle, Sea wand or Kombu, and is found in cold to temperate waters, including the North Sea coast of Sweden. A popular ingredient in traditional Japanese and Chinese cuisine, Laminaria is highly appreciated for its rich nutritional content of trace elements and minerals, making it wonderfully skin-conditioning and replenishing in beauty. 

Capable of surviving even the harshest Arctic conditions, heather has long been valued for its healing properties. Heather’s clusters of mauve-coloured flowers bloom in the late summer months and are still enjoyed as a tea in  Sweden today. The resilient shrub is known for its rich profile of nourishing compounds, including flavanols, catechins, phenolic acids, phenols and triterpenes, all of which can give it skin-conditioning properties.
