The Perfumer’s Fragrance Tips

Extremely independent and a bit of a rebel, Alienor Massenet has found her ideal mode of self-expression in the world of perfume. And so we spoke to her about her latest creation; Oriflame Wonderflower, and asked her to share her 7 fragrance tips too!

1. FINDING YOUR FIRST FRAGRANCE
“When I was a little girl, maybe 13 or 14 years old, in a perfumery in Monaco, I remember falling under the spell of small solution containing vanilla. The combination, fresh oriental, was very interesting: sweet and sparkling at the same time.

And so, when picking your first scent, my advice would be to let your emotions speak and to follow your intuition. It’s very important for a first perfume to match what you want to express, but it’s even more important that you’re at ease with it. It should reveal and highlight your personality in a comfortable way.”

2. KNOW YOURSELF
“Most of the scents we like are connected with our own personal experiences and memories, so try to dive into them. Everyday life, mainly nature and food, can give you the opportunity to experience smells and flavours and discover your preferences. I, for example, really like vanilla for its complexity; it has a sweet and animal side as well as an edible one.”

3. TRUST YOUR INSTICTS
“I know precisely what I like – I’m looking for a kind of flash! I’m very drawn to strength creations that can be balanced by powerful and fresh notes, just as long as it has an addictive feeling.”

4. LOOK FOR SOMETHING FUN
“To me, the Oriflame scent, Wonderflower evokes an exuberant femininity: fun and lively at the same time! I created the fragrance around a Rainbow Cheeky accord that’s at once playful and charming. It’s a vibrant boisterous note that leads us into a feeling of surprise, joy and freedom.”

5. PERFECT APPLICATION
“Gabrielle Chanel used to say: “A woman should wear perfume wherever she wants to be kissed.” I would add to this the pulse points of your body: your wrists, behind your ears…”

6. MAKE IT LAST
“There are different ways to make your perfume last longer, spray it on your clothes, a scarf, onto your hair - you can even add some to your body lotion.”

7. TAKING CARE OF YOUR SCENT
“The trick is to not expose your fragrance to heat: you can store it either in a fridge or simply in a cold room.”
